DISYAI: Digital Skills Development Project for Youth Workers in AI Era
The DISYAI project aims primarily at strengthening the skills and competencies of youth workers so that they can better support young people in developing their digital literacy skills and fostering their transformation into responsible digital citizens. This effort focuses on comprehensive training of youth workers, providing them with the necessary tools to teach digital skills to young people, thus complementing the formal education they receive in school institutions with non-formal training activities in their extracurricular programs.
The objectives of the project, specified from the perspective of youth work practice, are:
• Strengthening the skills and competencies of youth workers:
Improving the digital literacy of youth workers so that they can effectively support young people in their digital learning journey.
Equipping youth workers with advanced digital tools and methodologies to deliver high-quality training.
• Supporting young people in developing digital literacy:
Fostering the transformation of young people into responsible digital citizens.
Fostering critical thinking and ethical use of digital technologies among young people.
• Comprehensive training of youth workers:
Providing comprehensive training programmes covering both technical and pedagogical aspects of digital education.
Facilitating workshops, seminars and practical training sessions focused on developing digital skills.
• Complementing formal education with non-formal training:
Integrating non-formal educational activities into youth extracurricular programmes.
Improving the practical application of digital skills learned in formal education settings.
The project seeks to empower both youth workers and young people, fostering a generation of responsible and digitally literate citizens. This will be achieved by training youth workers so that they can guide young people in the ethical and safe use of digital technologies.
In addition, the project aims for youth workers to:
• Acquire skills to design and implement programs that integrate digital technologies, adapting them to the needs and interests of young people.
• Use digital tools and methodologies to improve group dynamics, encouraging participation and the creation of safe spaces.
• Provide mentoring and individualized support to young people in the digital field.
• Apply good practices in the use of AI-based applications and lead by example, raising awareness of their ethical use by young people.
• Be able to evaluate the impact of their digital interventions and adapt their practices based on the feedback and results they obtain. The same applications should not always be applied and with the same meaning. It is advisable to adapt to the group with which they work, and age is also a determining factor, since the vast majority of AI applications do not have adequate data protection and minors must be aware and protected of this fact. It should also be noted that the AI being used will likely be based in a country outside the European Union and, therefore, it will be difficult for it to comply with European standards for the protection of data and minors.
